Adsorptive removal of thiazine dyes from aqueous solutions by oil shale and its oil processing residues: Characterization, equilibrium, kinetics and modeling studies

Adsorption characteristics of oil shale (OS) and its pyrolysis byproducts for cationic thiazine dyes were investigated using thionine (TH), toluidine blue (TB) and methylene blue (MB). The time dependent data for the OS adsorption were analyzed using the linear driving force (LDF) model by combining with the Langmuir isotherm. The external mass transfer (k(f)) and surface diffusion (D-s) coefficients were analytically calculated based on McKay equation. They decreased with increasing molecular sizes of the dyes in the following order TH > TB > MB. In contrary, desorption efficiency in 0.1 M NaCI solution increased in the same order. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/DTG), atomic force microscopy (AFM), diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transforms (DRIFT) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy techniques were used in conjunction to characterize the OS samples. A comparison of (DRIFT) spectra of the dye loaded and unloaded adsorbents showed that the larger dye molecules are primarily adsorbed on the negatively charged surface hydroxyl groups and/or on organic functional groups with electrostatic interactions while the smaller molecules replace with structural cations in the interlayer space of the mineral matrices. Adsorption capacity of the pyrolysis residue obtained in nitrogen atmosphere at 200 degrees C (OS-200) for the dyes decreased with respect to the OS whereas the byproduct at 500 degrees C (OS-500) had considerably higher adsorption ability. All of the dyes were completely removed by the OS and OS-500 from dilute solutions (<0.5 mmol L-1). General synthetic approach towards annelated 3a,6-epoxyisoindoles by tandem acylation/IMDAF reaction of furylazaheterocycles. Scope and limitations

An efficient and versatile one-pot synthesis of 3,6a-epoxyisoindoles annelated with oxazine, oxazole, thiazine, thiazole, pyrimidine fragments and with their benzoannelated analogues is presented. The method is based on tandem N-acylation/intramolecular cycloaddition (the intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction of furan, IMDAF) reaction between alpha,beta-unsaturated acid anhydrides and alpha-furyl substituted azaheterocycles. The latter can be easily prepared by condensation of diverse furfurals and 1,2- or 1,3-N,X-binucleophiles (aminoalcohols, aminothiols, diamines). The observed IMDAF reaction is stereo-selective: exo-adducts are formed exclusively with large prevalence of one of the diastereoisomers. In most cases, the condensation/N-acylation/IMDAF reaction sequence may be carried out via a one-pot domino protocol. The scope and limitations of the proposed approach are thoroughly investigated. The obtained Diels-Alder adducts are attractive and useful substrates for further transformations. Fused isoindoles can be prepared from them in one-step by aromatization of the 7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptene ring. Other transformations, including halogenation, ring cleavage, and Wagner-Meerwein skeletal rearrangement, are also demonstrated. Ecofriendly pH-Tunable Hydrogels for Removal of Perilous Thiazine Dye

Reactive dyes are extremely toxic and harmful to the environment even present at very low concentration. In this study, sodium alginate based reusable hydrogels was prepared for the removal of methylene blue from waste water. pH-tunable hydrogels was prepared by the introduction of ionic pendant functionalities on sodium alginate (SA) by the utilization of ethylene glycol and acrylic acid through condensation followed by free radical polymerization. The structure, formation and thermal stability of hydrogel was identified by Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis respectively. Swelling nature at different pH ranges and the humidity contents of both dried and dye adsorbed hydrogels was investigated. The morphology of the dry and dye adsorbed hydrogel was also studied using scanning electron microscopy. The swelling studies infer that pronounced swelling obtained at higher pH than at lower pH. The surface morphology of plain hydrogel before and after adsorption of methylene blue (MB) was examined by SEA analysis. The adsorption tendency of the SEA hydrogel in MB was steadily investigated at different pH, contact time, concentration dye and adsorbent dosage. All prepared hydrogels were performed well in the removal of MB from waste water up to 80-98%. Recycling of hydrogels has a vital role for waste water treatment and it can be done by desorption studies which shows that 0.1 N HCl revealed higher elution efficiency i.e. 90.00%. Furthermore, adsorption-desorption studies suggested that SA based hydrogels contributes to enhance the removal efficacy, which renders the hydrogels well-designed for the efficient removal of cationic dyes (MB). However, polyol based hydrogels have been chosen for an adsorbent because of low-cost, ecofriendly, biocompatible and efficient biosorbents. [GRAPHICS] .

SYNTHESIS AND BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF SOME NEW OXAZINES AND THIAZINES

In an approach to hostile the growing microbial drug resistance and to advance new antimicrobial moieties having more potent effect, here we have synthesized some novel substituted heterocyclic chalcone derivatives containing oxazine and thiazine moieties. Conversion of 2, 4-dihydroxyphenyl-3-phenylpropenones into 4-(2-hydrazinyl-6-phenyl-6H-1, 3-oxazin-4-yl) benzene-1,3-diols 3(a-i) was achieved by stirring 2(a-i) with semicarbazide in ethanolic sodium hydroxide. Similarly, conversion of 2(a-i) into 4-(2-hydrazinyl-6-phenyl-6H-1, 3-thiazin-4-yl) benzene-1, 3-diols 4(a-i) was achieved by stirring 2(a-i) with thiosemicarbazide in ethanolic sodium hydroxide. All the compounds were screened for in vitro antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxic activity. The newly synthesized compounds exhibited significant inhibition values compared to standard drugs.

Synthesis of microgels based on carboxymethylcellulose cross-linked with zinc(II) ions and heterocyclic effectors of NO-synthase

Convenient synthesis path of nanostructured water-soluble microgels (PMG) based on carboxymethylcellulose cross-linked with zinc and ligand N-(5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-thiazine-2 yl) benzamide and N-(4- isopropyl-phenyl)-N-(1-iminoethyl)piperidine-1-carbothioamide hydrobromides is described. Being insoluble in aqueous solutions the complex of zinc with the ligand acquires the solubility in water when dispersed in nanocontainers of PMG. Microgels were obtained by varying the content of zinc-ions in the reaction mixture. A new method for the determination of zinc in PMG composite using sulfarsazene is proposed. The resulting nanoparticles have been tested for cytotoxicity. It was established cytotoxicity of nanocontainers strongly depends on the concentration of zinc and ligand in composition of PMG.

Synthesis and selected immunological properties of 10-substituted 1,8-diazaphenothiazines

A new type of tricyclic azaphenothiazines-1,8-diazaphenothiazines-was obtained in the reaction of 2,3- and 3,4-disubstituted pyridines. The reaction ran as the Smiles rearrangement. The 1,8-diazaphenothiazine system was determined using NOE experiment and 2D NMR spectra (COSY, HSQC, HMBC). 10H-1,8-diazaphenothiazine was transformed into 10-derivatives with alkyl, aminoalkyl, amidoalkyl, sulfonamidoalkyl, and nitrogen half-mustard groups. The compounds were tested for their effects on phytohemagglutinin A-induced proliferative response of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and lipopolysaccharide-induced tumor necrosis factor alpha production by human whole blood cultures. The compounds exhibited differential, dose-dependent inhibitory activities in these tests. All the compounds were low toxic against PBMC. The compounds showing the highest antiproliferative activity strongly inhibited the growth of leukemia L-1210 and colon cancer SW-948 cell lines, similarly as cisplatin, a reference drug.

Synthesis, Cytotoxicity Evaluation, Molecular Docking and Utility of Novel Chalcones as Precursors for Heterocycles Incorporating Pyrazole Moiety

Background: Chalcones, 2-pyrazolines and thiazoles have been reported to possess various pharmacological activities. Objective: Synthesis of new chalcones and utilizing them as a building block for constructing a series of thiazole derivatives and evaluating some of them as anticancer agents. Method: The new compounds were synthesized via stirring at room temperature or thermal heating. Cytotoxic evaluation of the new synthesized compounds was tested using the method of Skehan et al. Moreover, the computational studies were performed using MOE 2014.09 software. Result: A series of new chalcones were prepared by the reaction of ethyl 3-acetyl-1-aryl-5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate with a number of substituted benzaldehydes. One of these chalcones was used as a building block for constructing a pyrazoline ring via its reaction with thiosemicarbazide. The produced carbothioamide derivative was used for the preparation of two series of thiazole derivatives by its reaction with a number of hydrazonoyl chlorides. Moreover, reaction of 3-acetylpyrazole thiosemicarbazone derivative with a number of N-aryl-2-oxopropane hydrazonoyl chlorides afforded 5-arylazothiazole derivatives. The assigned structures for all the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed on the basis of elemental analyses and spectral data. Some of the newly synthesized chalcones and thiazoles were tested for their cytotoxicity against human colon carcinoma cell line (HCT-116) and the molecular docking was carried out on the most active compound 3f. Conclusion: The results of the anticancer activity revealed that compounds 3f, 3e, 3c and 3b have promising activities compared with the standard drug Doxorubicin. Moreover, the computational studies confirm the results of biological activity. Also, the ADME profile study showed that compound 3f can be considered as a promising drug by conducting good pharmacokinetic and medicinal chemistry tests.

A New Metabolite with a Unique 4-Pyranone-gamma-Lactam-1,4-Thiazine Moiety from a Hawaiian-Plant Associated Fungus

An endophytic fungus Paraphaeosphaeria neglecta FT462 isolated from the Hawaiian-plant Lycopodiella cernua (L.) Pic. Serm produced one unusual compound (1, paraphaeosphaeride A) with the 4-pyranone-gamma-lactam-1,4-thiazine moiety, along With two new compounds (2 and 3, paraphaeosphaerides B and C, respectively) and the known compound (4). Compounds 1-3 were characterized by NMR and MS spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configuration of the 3-position of compound 1 was determined as S by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Compound 3 also Showed STAT3 inhibition at 10 mu M.

Reinvestigations into synthesis of allyldithiocarbamates and their intramolecular cyclization: synthesis and antihyperglycemic activity of 2-thioxothiazolidine-4-alkanoates

Reinvestigating the synthesis of allylthiocarbamates from MBH derivatives revealed that they are obtained more efficiently from allylbromides in isopropanol rather than acetates in water. Further unlike reported, the base-mediated intramolecular cyclization of these allyldithiocarbamates give substituted 2-thioxothiazolidine-4-alkanoates instead of substituted 1,3-thiazines and the reaction was restricted to 2- or 4-nitrophenyl carrying substrates. Screening of these products for antihyperglycemic activity revealed that 5bC displays significant activity via partial agonist activity on PPAR gamma at transcriptional level, which was corroborated by molecular docking studies. Regioselective synthesis of thiophene fused sultam derivatives via iodocyclization approach and their application towards triazole linker

An efficient regioselective synthesis of 4-iodo-2,3-disubstituted-2H-thieno[3,2-el[1,2]thiazine-1,1-dioxide derivatives via iodocyclization approach using iodine under mild reaction condition described herein. This coupling iodocyclization strategy tolerated a variety of functional groups such as alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl producing the six-membered heterocyclic ring selectively.
