An Efficient One-Pot Synthesis of Benzo[1,4]Thiazines, Benzo[1,3]Thiazoles and Benzo[1,5] Thiazepines

Background: One-pot reactions have gained considerable and wide range of interests in the field of chemistry due to their simplicity and economy. Comparing to the step-by-step reactions that involve the formation of individual bonds for a given target product, the greatest attribute of one-pot reactions, is the formation of several bonds in one-pot operation without intermediate isolation, reaction condition changing and further reagents adding. Objective: We developed an one-pot, rapid, simple and eco-friendly synthetic strategy for benzothiazines, benzothiazoles and benzothiazpines through the interaction of o-aminothiophenol with ketones, nitriles and chalcones, respectively. Method: A mixture of o-aminothiophenol ketones, nitriles and chalcones was refluxed or stirred at room temperature in glacial acetic acid containing a catalytic amount of concentrated H2SO4 for 3h. Then, the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with water and crystallized from the appropriate solvent. Results: The interaction of o-aminothiophenol with aromatic and aliphatic ketones containing active alpha-hydrogens afforded the corresponding 2H-benzo[1,4] thiazines and 4H-benzo[1,4] thiazines, respectively. Similarly, the cyclic ketones afforded the corresponding tricyclic compounds. Treatment of o-aminothiophenol with nitriles under the same reaction condition gave benzo[1,3] thiazoles. Further, cyclocondensation with chalcones under the same reaction condition at room temperature yielded the corresponding benzo[1,5] thiazepines. The reaction mechanism was investigated and the structures of all new compounds were elucidated using spectral analysis. Conclusion: An efficient, simple and environmentally friendly synthesis of benzothiazines, benzothiazoles and benzothiazepines in one-pot synthesis has been developed. With this catalytic reaction, a very cheap sulfuric acid was used as a catalyst.

Antimicrobial Properties of Substituted Quino [3,2-b]benzo[1,4] thiazines

Our previous studies demonstrated that among phenothiazines several derivatives could be found showing strong antiproliferative actions and the property of inhibiting inducible tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) production in human blood cultures. The aim of this investigation was to determine potential antimicrobial actions of forty four new phenothiazine derivatives with the quinobenzothiazine structure. The compounds showed differential antibacterial and antifungal activities against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans depending on the compound structures, concentrations and bacterial strains. More specifically, 6-(1-methyl-2-piperidylethyl) quinobenzothiazine displayed strongest actions against S. aureus and E. coli whereas 6-methanesulfonylaminobutyl-9-methylthioquinobenzothiazine exhibited the most universal antimicrobial properties. The correlation between antimicrobial activity and the chemical structure of quinobenzothiazines was discussed.

Photocatalysis with Pt-Au-ZnO and Au-ZnO Hybrids: Effect of Charge Accumulation and Discharge Properties of Metal Nanoparticles

Metal-semiconductor hybrid nanomaterials are becoming increasingly popular for photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants. Herein, a seed-assisted photodeposition approach is put forward for the site-specific growth of Pt on Au-ZnO particles (Pt- Au-ZnO). A similar approach was also utilized to enlarge the Au nanoparticles at epitaxial Au-ZnO particles (Au@Au-ZnO). An epitaxial connection at the Au-ZnO interface was found to be critical for the site-specific deposition of Pt or Au. Light on-off photocatalysis tests, utilizing a thiazine dye (toluidine blue) as a model organic compound, were conducted and confirmed the superior photodegradation properties of Pt-Au-ZnO hybrids compared to Au-ZnO. In contrast, Au-ZnO type hybrids were more effective toward photoreduction of toluidine blue to leucotoluidine blue. It was deemed that photoexcited electrons of Au- ZnO (Au, similar to 5 nm) possessed high reducing power owing to electron accumulation and negative shift in Fermi level/redox potential; however, exciton recombination due to possible Fermi-level equilibration slowed down the complete degradation of toluidine blue. In the case of Au@Au-ZnO (Au, similar to 15 nm), the photodegradation efficiency was enhanced and the photoreduction rate reduced compared to Au-ZnO. Pt-Au-ZnO hybrids showed better photodegradation and mineralization properties compared to both Au-ZnO and Au@Au-ZnO owing to a fast electron discharge (i.e. better electron-hole seperation). However, photoexcited electrons lacked the reducing power for the photoreduction of toluidine blue. The ultimate photodegradation efficiencies of Pt-Au-ZnO, Au@Au-ZnO, and Au-ZnO were 84, 66, and 39%, respectively. In the interest of effective metal-semiconductor type photocatalysts, the present study points out the importance of choosing the right metal, depending on whether a photoreduction and/or photodegradation process is desired.

Access to SCN-containing thiazolines via electrochemical regioselective thiocyanothiocyclization of N-allylthioamides

An electrochemical thiocyanothiocyclization of N-allylthioamides has been developed for the synthesis of SCN-containing 2-thiazolines. This method provides a green and efficient approach to generate 5-exo-cyclization 2-thiazolines with a broad substrate scope and good yields. In addition, 6-endo-cyclization isothiocyanato thiazines are formed regioselectively when cyclic thioamides are used as reactants. The reaction is easy to proceed under catalyst-, additive- and oxidant-free conditions.

Electrochemical Evaluation and DFT Studies of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-4,6-dioxo-8-phenyl-4,6-dihydropyrimido[2,1-b][1,3]thiazine-7-carbonitrile of Carbon Steel Corrosion in Hydrochloric Acid

In present study corrosion inhibition property of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-4,6-dioxo-8-phenyl-4,6-dihydropyrimido[2,1-b][1,3]thiazine-7-carbonitrile (CHPPC) in 1.0 M HCl was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization and DFT studies. From electrochemical measurements it is observed that inhibition efficiency increases with CHPPC concentration and maximum efficiency (98.9) was obtained at 1.0 mM. The potentiodynamic study reveals that pyrimidothiazine derivative is a mixed type inhibitor with predominant cathodic action. EIS plot indicates that the addition of inhibitor increases the charge-transfer resistance (Rct) and decreases the double-layer capacitance (Cdl) of the corrosion process, these observation reveal that investigated pyrimidothiazine derivative inhibits carbon steel corrosion by adsorption mechanism. Adsorption of pyrimidothiazine derivative on carbon steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The effect of temperature on the corrosion rate was investigated and some thermodynamic parameters were also calculated in order to explain the mechanism of adsorption. A theoretical study of the corrosion inhibition efficiency of this pyrimidothiazine derivative, was carried out using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level of theory.

Epinephrine electrochemical sensor based on a carbon paste electrode modified with hydroquinone derivative and graphene oxide nano-sheets: Simultaneous determination of epinephrine, acetaminophen and dopamine

In this paper, an electrochemical sensor was constructed for determination of epinephrine based on carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with graphene oxide (GO) and 2-(5-Ethyl-2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-5,7-dimethy1-4H-pyrido[2,3-d][1,3]thiazine-4-one (EDDPT) as modifiers. The modified electrode was applied as an electrochentical sensor for oxidation of epinephrine (EP). Under the optimum conditions, the over potential of EP oxidation decreased about 279 mV at the modified CPE more than a non-modified CPE. Electrochemical behavior of EP was investigated on the fabricated electrode by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods, and some kinetic parameters of EP Were obtained, too. The linear range and the detection limit for EP were found to be 1.5-600.0 WM and 0.65 uM (based on 3 sum), respectively using the EDDPT/GO/CPE sensor and the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method. Also, the designed electrochemical sensor was applied to determine EP in the drug sample and simultaneous determination of epinephrine (EP), acetaminophen (AC) and dopamine (DA) in human serum solutions. However, (Z)-6′-amino-1,3-dioxo-3′-substituted-2′-[(E)-(1-phenylethylidene) hydrazono]-1,2′, 3,3′-tetrahydrospiro(indene-2,4′-[1,3]thiazine)-5’-carbonitriles were observed during the reaction of N-substituted-2-(1-phenylethylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamides with (1). Poorly soluble drugs: disbalance of thermodynamic characteristics of crystal lattice and solvation

The dissolution processes in aqueous media of poorly soluble drugs belonging to the classes of spiro derivatives, benzoic acid and its derivatives, sulfonamides, fenamates, and thiadiazoles were analyzed based on the data recently published by the author. The main criterion for the solubility analysis was the comparison of the thermodynamic characteristics of sublimation processes (state of the molecules in solids) and solvation (state of the molecules in solutions) under structural modification of the reference molecule. The characteristics of the processes under investigation were compared by the superposed diagram approach which allows complete information to be obtained about the thermodynamic state of the molecules in crystal and solution. A variety of thermodynamic paths of the molecules undergoing structural modification (design) was shown. The extreme solubility values were obtained for the considered classes of compounds which can be derived by structural modification of the substances. A classification of the drugs was suggested based on the analysis of the determinative steps of the dissolution processes: crystal or solvation controlled. Based on the investigation of 59 drugs belonging to five different classes of compounds, it was estimated that for 50.7% of the compounds the solubility processes were crystal controlled, whereas for the rest 49.3% – solvation controlled. Among all the considered compounds, a structural modification of the reference one led to a solubility enhancement only in 22.1% of the substances. And in 85% of the compounds, the dissolution processes were solvation controlled and in the remaining 15% – crystal controlled.

Synthesis and Intramolecular Cyclization of N-acyl- and N-allyl-N ‘-(2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-pyridin-3-yl)thiourea

The reaction of 3-amino-4,6-dimethylpyridin-2(1H)-one and 3-amino-4-phenylpyridin-2-one with acyl isothiocyanates (benzoyl-, 4-bromobenzoyl-, and methacryloyl isothiocyanates) and with allyl isothiocyanate has been studied.
