Electrochemical Evaluation and DFT Studies of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-4,6-dioxo-8-phenyl-4,6-dihydropyrimido[2,1-b][1,3]thiazine-7-carbonitrile of Carbon Steel Corrosion in Hydrochloric Acid

In present study corrosion inhibition property of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-4,6-dioxo-8-phenyl-4,6-dihydropyrimido[2,1-b][1,3]thiazine-7-carbonitrile (CHPPC) in 1.0 M HCl was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization and DFT studies. From electrochemical measurements it is observed that inhibition efficiency increases with CHPPC concentration and maximum efficiency (98.9) was obtained at 1.0 mM. The potentiodynamic study reveals that pyrimidothiazine derivative is a mixed type inhibitor with predominant cathodic action. EIS plot indicates that the addition of inhibitor increases the charge-transfer resistance (Rct) and decreases the double-layer capacitance (Cdl) of the corrosion process, these observation reveal that investigated pyrimidothiazine derivative inhibits carbon steel corrosion by adsorption mechanism. Adsorption of pyrimidothiazine derivative on carbon steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The effect of temperature on the corrosion rate was investigated and some thermodynamic parameters were also calculated in order to explain the mechanism of adsorption. A theoretical study of the corrosion inhibition efficiency of this pyrimidothiazine derivative, was carried out using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level of theory.

An operational study comparing microscopes and staining variations for tuberculosis LED FM

SETTING: Tuberculosis control projects, Damien Foundation Bangladesh. OBJECTIVES: To compare transmitted fluorescence (Olympus CX21 (TM)/FRAEN FluoLED (TM)) with epi-fluorescence (Zeiss Primostar iLED (TM)) light-emitting diode microscopes (LED-FM) and various auramine staining and destaining/counterstaining techniques for the detection of acid-fast bacilli. DESIGN: Multicentre blinded reading of routine smears on both types of microscopes using different staining techniques in multiple phases. LED-FM rechecking of discordant series with and without restaining to calculate operating characteristics. RESULTS: Among 64 874 smears, both instruments detected 9.6% positives. Compared to the standard technique, the stronger auramine-O formulation did not perform better. Thiazine red counterstaining tended to yield more false-positive as well as false-negative errors. Combined destaining/counterstaining (sensitivity 93%, positive predictive value [PPV] 98%) proved significantly less effective. Both destaining with 1% hydrochloric acid (HCl) and 10% alcohol and the standard 0.5% HCl and 70-95% alcohol were equally accurate (sensitivity 95-96%, PPV 99%). The sturdiness of the microscopes in field conditions was sub-optimal: only 5/16 instruments did not break down. CONCLUSIONS: Both microscopes performed equally well. The standard staining technique is as good as the more complicated and expensive variations. A destaining solution containing only 10% alcohol works perfectly well. The inferior quality of LED-FM microscope components is an obstacle to FM expansion.

We reported a green synthesis of Silver-Graphene (Ag-G) nanocomposite through the reduction of Ag+ and graphene oxide using berry extract of Morthio. Silver nanoparticles were anchored onto the graphene sheets by ultrasonication and solar light irradiation. The as-prepared 4g-G nanocomposite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, Scanning transmission electron microscopy, Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction techniques. The photocatalytic activities of the Ag-G nanocomposite were evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and methylene orange (MO) in an aqueous medium under sunlight irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of Ag-G nanocomposite for the degradation of MB (k = 0.0163283 min(-1)) > MO (k=0.0140985 min(-1)), due to the anchoring of Ag nanoparticles on the graphene sheets and thiazine ring of MB is more susceptible to photodegradation than the azo bond of MO. This ecofriendly and green reduction method avoids the use of toxic reagents, and it might be useful for biocompatible materials in the future engineering applications. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. Spectral, kinetic, and nonlinear optical regularities that demonstrate the exchange of electronic excitations between the components of hybrid associates of Ag2S colloid quantum dots (1.7-1.8 nm) in gelatin with molecules of thiazine dyes (Ds) are found. When the IR luminescence of Ag2S quantum dots (QDs) is excited by radiation from the thionine absorption region, its enhancement due to nonradiative resonant energy transfer is observed. The association with methylene-blue molecules blocked the IR luminescence of Ag2S QDs upon its excitation by radiation from the absorption region of the dye due to the transfer of charge carriers. It is demonstrated that the hybrid association of thionine molecules and Ag2S QDs adversely affects the nonlinear optical properties of the latter, which manifests itself in inverse saturated absorption by the action of 10-ns second-harmonic pulses (532 nm) of a Nd3+:YAG laser. For the associates of Ag2S QDs with methylene-blue molecules, the radiation focusing caused by the transfer of charge carriers from the dye and the change in the population of small traps in nanocrystals is found. It is concluded that the direction of the transfer of electronic excitations and the photophysical processes in these objects are determined by the mutual arrangement of the HOMO-LUMO levels of the dye with respect to the levels of dimensional quantization of the Ag2S QDs.

Microwave-assisted Solid-phase Synthesis of N-substituted-2-aminobenzo[d][1,3] Thiazine Derivatives from a BOMBA Resin

An efficient solid-phase methodology has been developed for the synthesis of N-acyl and N-sulfonyl substituted 2-aminobenzo[d][1,3] thiazine derivatives. The key step in this methodology is the preparation of backbone amide linker-bound 2-aminobenzo[d][1,3] thiazine resin through cyclization reaction between isothiocyanates and BOMBA resin under microwave irradiation. This 2-aminobenzo[d][1,3] thiazine core skeleton resin undergoes substitution reactions with various electrophiles, such as acid halides and sulfonyl halides, to generate N-acyl and N-sulfonyl substituted 2-aminobenzo[d][1,3] thiazine resins, respectively. Finally, N-acyl and N-sulfonyl-substituted 2-aminobenzo[d][1,3] thiazine derivatives are prepared in good yields and purities by cleavage of the respective resins under trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in dichloromethane (DCM).
